In this article I will guide you by the step by step instructions to build your own solar panel. Having installed a solar panel at your home can reduce your monthly electric bill by approx 60%-80%. Even there is no need for any special skills to create your own DIY solar panels.

With a minimum investment, you can save a considerable amount of money each month. That is the reason why millions of people are turning their attention on do-it-yourself solar panels projects. If you wish to create your own, here is the step-by step process to make DIY solar panels.

First of all, you need is to get a 16-volt solar panel which suits your needs. It is not at all difficult to find a panel like this because you can find the parts at the local hardware store. Normally, this panel cost not more than $100.

The next thing you need to get is a battery. For this a small rechargeable battery would be best. You should look for a 12 volt deep cell acid or lead battery as they are good for constant use.

You should also purchase a battery box for safety purpose if in case you build your DIY solar panels in a very small area or have children around the area. Having the battery box will provide protection from the battery and the power it emanates.

Another thing you need is a DC meter that complements the battery’s voltage and a DC input. With the help of these items you can convert the energy from the panel and supply power around your home. You will also need an inverter to power AC appliances.

After you had finished with the above work, it is the time to attach the meter and DC input to the top end of the battery box. You should use some insulated wires to attach the meter to the battery. It is safe to work with one wire at a time and attach the first wire to negative input first. Same procedure goes when connecting the solar panel and DC inlet to the battery.

Now you may begin harnessing the sun’s power into usable energy. In order to close the lid tightly and put the whole thing out into the sun, use a cord. You will need eight hours to charge the solar panel and after this you are ready to use home made energy.

If you want to demolish your electric bill, then create your own DIY solar panels. Having one installed in your home would be great for the environment and great for your family as well.

The above steps are just the basic and summarized steps on how to build your own DIY solar panels. However, if you decide to build your own solar power panel, and you find these instructions a little complicated or advanced for your knowledge; then in this case i recommend that you should download a complete step by step study course from the internet which will provide you with easy to follow instructions and with tech support in

case you need assistance in the process of building your solar panels.

The biggest question lies with the fact that we should use solar panels or not. The answer to this is that the time has come that we should start exploring recyclable options for energy consumptions. The best among the unexplored options is the utilization of solar energy. As we know that the energy of the sun is readily available and is free of cost, and due to consumption there is even no fear of exhaustion as well. Besides the conservation aspect of solar energy, even the higher energy process also has attracted people to use solar panel as a cost effective measures. As the other fossil fuels like coal, or other petroleum products will get exhausted some day or the other. As the energy is in crises these days –so it is very important to conserve energy. Some day or the other the reserve bank of energy will get depleted. But in case of solar power you don’t have to be a big organization or a company to enjoy the fruits of it.

By Using of solar panels, it is possible to use solar energy. Since the last century only it has become possible that solar energy and making of solar panel plants have become a little easier. This has become possible due to the enlighten advancement in technology of semi conductors and that of photovoltaic design. This has made the solar source of energy usable for various industries. The amount of energy consumption would determine the array of solar panel. Consumption for the commercial purposes could be more than that of the domestic use. The concept of self constructing the solar panel as a cost effective tool and as a source of emergency power back up is catching up these days. Commercially there are two kinds of solar panels, the Crystalline Silicon and Amorphous Silicon solar panels. The process of creating crystalline silicon and amorphous silicon solar panels is very complicated and that too requires specialization. .

By using solar energy you can lower down your energy costs and for this you don’t need to be a rocket scientist as well. It is a good investment because we can increase our savings due to the use of solar panels. Solar panel not only saves your money by cutting electricity bills but also with the financial benefits that are being provided by the local government. Not only the commercial users but even the domestic users would get the benefits. These benefits could be – tax benefits or rebates by the government. You must get ensure that your solar panel is away from shade – by trimming the branches of the tree, keeping the panel all on the open with out any shelter or covering on, at all the time of the day so as to get the most efficient results from your solar panel.

Those who are willing to substitute the polluting energy created by fuel-supplied energy plants with green and renewable source of energy is the most desirable one. They have the ability to change sun energy to electrical energy and give the best outcome from it. Home solar panels can provide all the energy and heat requirements in your house and provide some to other users. They are best installed on the roof of the house or built in the roof in the course of the construction of the house.

Home solar panels can either turn sunlight into electricity or hot water. However, if your home solar panels are used to produce electricity, they cannot heat water or the air in your house. They can work well both in summer and in winters. In some circumstances you may have to change the position of the panels. These changes should be included in the technical features in the installation instruction manual you get on buying the home solar panels.

Installation of home solar energy systems has become its own licensed specialty performed by licensed home solar contractors. These solar panels are the most consistent source of harvesting energy for residential solar power generation, doing better than the solar cells of previous decades. Marine and RV solar panels and specialty items, such as Power flex flexible and portable solar panels, are also available.

Before buying any or installing one at your home. Many questions like how much energy you use in your home and what appliances or areas you want to power with your home solar panels have to be well thought-out. You will require less home solar panels to collect the necessary energy if the sun is shining often. If you have enough panels you can power your home from the sun anyway from where you live.

Generally home solar panels are designed for high voltage grid-connected systems, although they can be used for battery-based systems too. Because of the cost of batteries for solar panel systems, the controller has become quite useful. Batteries can only save an individual percentage of the energy created by your solar array.

Conventional voltages are more sensible purely because they are standard, which makes compatibility into the future more guaranteed. Always check with your local authority concerning planning issues before you have a system put in. Some local authorities call for planning consent to allow you to fit a PV system. The positive aspect to this system is eliminating the need, expense and hassle of a bank of batteries but the negative is that you have no store of energy should there be a blackout

Solar power is being seen as the solution to our energy needs for the upcoming future. On an average during the middle of the day the sun provides about 1,000 watts of energy per hour per square meter. That translates to 1000 watt per hour per square meter or 1 kWh/ m2. According to the United States Department of Energy, in a 100 square mile area in the desert southwest of the United States receives enough energy from the sun to meet the entire US daily energy needs. Now, there has been a challenge between the nations government to find ways how to effectively convert all of the sun’s energy in this 100 square mile area into usable electricity.

Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar power through photovoltaic power systems is the most commonly method. There are many advantages of owning and operating a residential solar power system.

Solar panels have a long operational and functional life. Most manufactures warrantee their solar panels for 20 years.

Producing electricity from solar panels is completely a very silent process.

The solar panel also provides some shade for your roof. The area which is being covered by the photovoltaic panels on your roof is not being heated by the sun which will result in a slightly cooler attic.

Once you have reached the pay off point, the amount of time it takes to pay for the residential solar power system’s installation cost, from there on the system is earning you money.

Once the solar power system is installed and it is ready for use, it is pretty much a maintenance free electricity production system. If your system includes a battery pack you will need service the batteries periodically.

Having all these advantages why everyone is not using solar power for the home?

There are some disadvantages to solar energy that you must take care of. They should be taken into account as you consider installing a residential solar power system in your house.

Once installed, a residential solar panel becomes part of your house. When you move, the system stays with the house.

Solar power does not work well for your large devices that use an electric heat element. Devices like electric hot water heater, electric whole house furnace, electric oven and range.

During the night and on cloudy days the solar power system does not produce any electricity due to less or no sunlight.

Replacing your composition roofing will require extra work and cost because the solar panels and related mounting hardware will have to be removed from the roof.

The cost per watt to have a residential solar power system installed in your house is still much higher than what the electric utility company charges per kilowatt hour

At the time of Hurricane Katrina, recent issue of Oprah featured an article about how
many of the homes in New Orleans being rebuilt that are eco friendly and use solar power.

From the dishwasher to the bathroom light to the wood used in the house’s
frame, these homes are examples of the greening of the construction industry.

That article stated a woman who has a new house, five years after the hurricane that is
run by solar panels. The panels are as big as picnic tables and her rooftop features 15
of them.In her neighborhood there are many other homes just like hers that use solar
panels to generate energy.

The ability to tap the sun for energy along with making new housing have the smallest
carbon footprint possible is the idea behind these new homes that replace some of the
thousands of homes wiped out in the hurricane.
All of these Louisiana residents lost everything when Hurricane Katrina swept through
their neighborhood in 2005. The devastation was seen around the world.

Not like traditional rain barrels that capture run off, these houses have a network of
gutters and tubes that actually direct the water into two cement containers that hold 300
gallons of water apiece. The containers include a pump that allows homeowners to use
the water for gardening or lawns or whatever on their properties.

Under the ground deep below the homes, a series of pipes collect the heat from the
ground and channels it up into the houses as another source of heat in addition to that
of the solar panels on top of the home.

Lighting and appliances are pretty standard to what you might see in any other eco-
friendly home, those with CFLs that consume less energy than traditional light bulbs. All
appliances are rated and Energy Star certified.

The foundation named ‘Make It Right’ is trying to build homes that use 70 percent less
energy than a typical home. The houses, which come in brilliant colors such as orange
and pink, cost at least $200,000 to build. Some residents can’t afford this price and the
foundation tries to help finance and fund the homes.

As solar power and green housing becomes more popular, this country will see more
and more homes of this type. It may seem right now like it is a little The Jetsons, but
truly this is the wave of the future and we will see all of these features implemented
more and more in new housing until most of us will barely be able to remember life
before them.

Two main types of solar power are available, the solar thermal and the photovoltaic
solar panel. Solar thermal uses the sun light’s infrared energy to heat a liquid or to warm
a mass of material that will later on release its stored heat. Harnessing solar thermal
energy involves building a house in such a way to collect the sun’s heat during the day
and radiate it into the home during the evening. However, in the summer time the house’s
construction uses mass to keep the sun’s heat out of the home.

Solar energy converting sun light into electrical energy. The most
commonly associated component are the photovoltaic panels or solar panels that you see
mounted on roofs.

This article is focusing on how photovoltaic solar power (solar panels) and systems work.

Why solar panels always are on the south (or north) side of the roof?

To get the maximum electrical output from photovoltaic panels they need to be oriented
to solar south in the northern hemisphere and solar north in the southern hemisphere.
They are the same as magnetic or compass north or south but there is about a fifteen
degree difference between them.

Most solar photovoltaic panels are set at home latitude plus fifteen degrees or home
latitude minus fifteen degrees. In higher latitudinal areas it needs to have the photovoltaic
panels set on a winter bias, so that during the winter the solar panels still get enough sun
light to produce solar electricity.

How does a photovoltaic cell produce electricity?

A solar panel consists of a collection of photovoltaic cells and each photovoltaic cell
is made up of silicon wafer. As silicon in its pure state is a poor electrical conductor so
during the manufacturing process, an impurity is added to the silicon so that when the
photons (light) strikes the wafer electrons are released and create electrical current.

The type of electrical current produced by a solar panel is a low voltage direct current, or
DC, typically in the range of six to twenty four volts. Photovoltaic panels have a nominal
output voltage of 12 volts and an effective operating voltage of 17 or more volts.

Several factors are responsible which affects a solar panel’s electrical output. Solar
photovoltaic panels produce more electricity during the middle of the day when the sun
is directly overhead compared to the early morning and late evening when the sun light is
striking the solar panel at a shallow angle.

For a corporation concerned intensively in marketing green electricity conversion, the one strategy to know that they absolutely imagine what they’re advertising is when they have the ability to furnish their independently assessed “Carbon Footprint Calculated” brand with their goods.

The word war between the U.S. and Chinese solar companies has intensified, the number of U.S. companies yesterday released new figures reveal the U.S. has seen a rise in cheap imports solar panels from China over the past six months.

About the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office in the imports of crystalline silicon solar cells and modules in China has more than doubled since July, the surge in imports that the Coalition for the American Solar Manufacturing (CASM), regarded as “further evidence of illegal dumping and subsidies for Chinese solar producers.”

CASM, which represents about 150 U.S. solar companies, last year complained to U.S. authorities alleged that the low-cost Chinese solar panels were the beneficiaries of subsidies which are in conflict with the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. The complaint led to an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce, which in turn drove the Chinese government rejects all the accusations that it had violated trade rules.

However, Gordon Brinser President of the Solar World Industries America Inc., member of CASM recently said 110 percent increase in imports shown that Chinese manufacturers were benefiting from unfair support and were concerned about the U.S. could respond by imposing import duties.

“This significant growth in imports shows that the Chinese know they have violated U.S. and international trade rules and the consequences of trying to avoid,” he said in a statement. “In the beginning, Chinese imports of solar cells and modules in 2011, up 346 per cent by volume and 138 percent of the value. Since 2008 imports from China have increased 939 percent and 1664 percent of the value of numbers.

“This latest surge of Chinese imports into the sun to give the U.S. Department of Commerce, the evidence it needs to not only make a preliminary statement on our behalf, but also to apply the critical conditions to find a last minute deal with this import surge.”

Under the U.S. Trade Law, “to find the critical conditions,” would require importers to pay import duties retroactively for 90 days.

CASM hopes that the preliminary determination will be delivered 13 the importance of imports from February 15 November onwards could be the anti-dumping duties.

The group also claims evidence that some companies are storing a cheaper chinese solar panels prior to any decision.

“The Chinese have made it clear that, unlike the various WTO agreements they signed 10 years ago, they employ all the means to control the American and international solar markets,” Brinser said. “Instead of rewarding China’s cheating, trade and international trade, the Commission must do everything possible to ensure that American manufacturers a level playing field.”

The Chinese authorities have repeatedly argued that the subsidies for domestic solar companies are in line with WTO rules, and argued that the United States in addition to aid for clean energy businesses and that support for renewable energy is in line with global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Many of the U.S. solar installers have also argued against the Department of Commerce study claiming that low-cost solar panels to help the demand in the U.S. market for technology.

The study is part of a simmering trade spat between the U.S. and China to support clean energy technologies.

Department of Commerce also confirmed last week that it would investigate imports of wind turbine towers in China and Vietnam, who is also alleged to have benefited from unfair subsidies. At the same time, President Obama announced this week the State of the Union address that he had ordered a new agency to investigate unfair trade practices

Lebrija concentrating solar thermal strength plant feeds electrical power towards the grid. Siemens and Valoriza achieve important milestone in solar energy: Lebrija concentrated solar electrical power plant feeds energy to the grid.

The Lebrija concentrating solar thermal electrical power plant found in southern Andalucía in Spain has become feeding electric power into the electrical power grid. On December 27, 2011, the plant, erected as an EPC challenge by Siemens and Valoriza as a result of a joint opportunity, has acquired the RIPRE Ultimate Registry through the regional government of your Spanish province of Andalucía for power made from solar thermal electrical power vegetation.

Which has a potential of fifty megawatts, the Lebrija plant can supply environmentally friendly electrical energy for approximately 30,000 Spanish homes when running at complete load. All inner and external test runs shown the operability and operational readiness from the plant’s methods. On December the 27, the plant was granted approval for that RIPRE (Registro de Instalaciones de Producción de Régimen Especial) Closing Registry with the Andalucían Authorities. The plant continues to be feeding electrical energy into your grid ever since. Siemens supplied Lebrija’s total solar area, with all of the solar receivers, collectors and mirrors, in addition to the steam turbine. Valoriza presented the civil will work, electricity block, and warmth transfer fluid method. On top of that, Siemens presented integration, handle method and engineering providers. The two corporations are jointly responsible for operation and servicing.

“The Lebrija undertaking demonstrates our complete remedy portfolio for solar thermal strength crops. This can be the very first concentrating solar power plant during which not only the steam turbine, but in addition the entire solar industry was provided by Siemens”, stated Ted Scheidegger, CEO on the Solar & Hydro Division of Siemens Vitality. “Solar thermal power still has interesting potential ahead of it. New applications and lower cost will open new markets for this green technology. Research and development play a key role here and Siemens is effectively underway in implementing attractive cost and applications road maps.”

“This challenge represents for Sacyr Vallehermoso Group and Valoriza Energía as a subsidiary, the consolidation of a strategy aimed at the realization of all kinds of turnkey projects, both electrical power (cogeneration and biomass vegetation) and industrial projects”, said Pedro Núñez-Barranco, Managing Director of Valoriza Energía. “Valoriza Energía is also capable of developing this kind of challenge anywhere in the world.”

Solar thermal electrical power vegetation use mirrors to concentrate solar electrical power and heat oil close to 400 ° Celsius; the oil transfers its thermal power to water, which ultimately produces pressurized steam. This steam drives a turbine, which converts mechanical energy into electric power through a generator.

INVESTING in renewable energy is among the solutions to acquire electricity protection during the Philippines, based on the Philippine Solar Strength Alliance Inc. (PSPA) founder and spokesman Tetchi Capellan.

Inside a new interview with all the Business-Mirror, Capellan mentioned the PSPA can be urging the government to craft a more realistic 20-year photo voltaic improvement that could highlight the progress achieved through the photo voltaic business and harness the full potential of solar electricity during the Philippines.

solar power rebate

Underneath the current system, photo voltaic was assigned 15 megawatt (mw) for each year until finally 2030, which “ignores the probable of solar for the region, and disregards the improvements recorded in photo voltaic technological know-how.”

In her paper offered for the Household of Representatives’ Electrical power Committee, Capellan lamented that there was no awareness given to your function that ordinary individuals can add in growing the capacity inside the Luzon-Visayas grid.

“It took no realize with the countless roofs in urban places that may accommodate photo voltaic programs. If only ten percent from the rooftops in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, and various cities set up solar kits, daytime use is usually coated by photo voltaic strength,” she reported.

Whilst the price of building photo voltaic electrical power is still exorbitant, Capellan reported the state must still acquire solar strength because the selling prices of oil and coal keep on escalating which becomes a detriment to several intercontinental economies, which include the Philippines.

“Given the climbing price of fossil gas, investing in photo voltaic now secures our long term,” she reported.

The price of crude oil has become routinely rising. In 2003 it climbed from $30 for each barrel to over $130 while in the spring of 2008.

Meanwhile, the value to get a ton of coal has tripled because 1996. As far as uranium for nuclear electricity is concerned, it’s got greater 17-fold inside of 6 a long time.

“Thirty-three % of your electrical power we use is imported. The Nationwide Renewable Electrical power Board noted that for each $10 improve of coal prices, you will find a corresponding rise of 21 centavos in electricity bills per kilowatt. Offered these data, the very best insurance plan towards long term rate rises is, therefore, a lot quicker and broader advancement of homegrown renewable power,” she mentioned.

Capellan claimed the archipelagic nature with the Philippines is perfect for the deployment of solar power due to the fact it does not necessitate creating energy grids throughout the place to supply electrical energy nationwide.

She stated using photo voltaic electrical power could assist alleviate spikes when ever you will find a procedure peak in a particular region for the reason that it may be transported to avert electric power shortage.

Only photo voltaic vitality is usually deployed swiftly to increase the potential in Luzon, and without delay furnish the desired electric power to augment the so-called peakers.

Capellan cited the case from the Cagayan Electrical Energy and light Provider Inc. (Cepalco), which noted that Mindanao generally encounters yellow and red alerts for the reason that 4 strength vegetation are often on compelled outages. The grid could not adequately offer the ability necessities over the island as the gross reserves, believed at 250mw, are only not offered.

In these situations where by power selling prices within the industry can go as higher as P35 per kilowatt hour (kWh) based upon the September 2010 report of your Wholesale Energy Spot Current market, the National Rural Electrification Board noted that photo voltaic energy can minimize these market place costs to around P3/kWh with the infusion of yet another 200 megawatts of photo voltaic energy.

“Government can help you save P1.2 billion as photo voltaic displace the expensive diesel-fired electric power crops,” claimed Capellan.

“Further, photo voltaic might make each person human being an independent electricity producer. Anyone who installs a 3-kw photo voltaic kit on his rooftop saves at the least twenty % in vitality use a month. These impartial electrical power producers also add to lowering the importation of pricey diesel,” she mentioned.
